RE: Ducted air

You can pop off the other vent covers and insert a small piece of carboard as a form of vent register. That should drive a little more air into the bedroom area.
There is not much more you could do. Maybe add a small fan in the bedroom to circulate the air more.

RE: Ramp door supports

I used mine a few times and said enough with that.
Go to your local target/wallyworld and get a aset of Plastic Bed Risers.
They look like this.
The round rubber bumpers on the top of the door fit into them just perfect. They also have a larger contact patch with the ground than the factory metal stands.
So, now what to do with the clamps??? Removeable Helmet rack, basketball hoop, hummmmm???

RE: costco VS Trojan Batteries

Another one for the Costco brand. Have had zero issues with them.
I have a friend (Max) that'll most likely be facing the same decision thanks to his less then ideal charger.

RE: To step down or not?

Hey Revel, Stick with your Alpha for another year or 2. Or at least until the market comes back around.
I have a 08 cougar 310SRX and am very happy with it. It tows nice and fits my dirt bike and the DW's quad with enough wiggle room to make me feel comfortable. Not a full timer unit, but good for a week or two.
I pull mine with a 05 Dodge 3500 srw and get around 11.5 on the last few trips (SF,ca and Vegas from Phoenix) Weighting close to 12k is not too far from 10.5k.
The rear room is nice for company though! Our Friends/Family loves having their own room when they join us on trips. Which is mainly why we went with this model.
Good luck in your decision.

RE: funny DURO tire story

I have owned all of those "Bad Brands" and to date have not had an issue. In all my 25 years of driving I have only had one blowout and I KNOW why that happened. It was a old spare that sat in the sun for 8 years on the back of a jeep in AZ.
I would say "attention to detail", would have saved several blowouts. I never leave anywhere without checking tire pressure. Kick the tires at every stop/fillup. If a tire has a slow leak, it's time to get it repaired or replaced. I also run mine within 5 psi of Max. and try to keep the speed under 70. (hard to do in AZ with nice roads and 75mph limits.
As we all know anything bolted on at the manufacturer is lowest spec and cost. So most tires could be at max cap. when your loaded and ready for fun.
My duro's work great! But when they are done, I'll most likely jump up a load level and buy what looks like the best deal at the time.

RE: Problems w/AC Unit not Cooling

We just got back from Las Vegas and have a 15K unit on our Cougar 310. During the hottest part of the day (103-109) it kept the inside at 83 degrees. That is with 4 people, in and out of the trailer all day. At one point we had 10 people over for a BBQ, the AC hung in there at 84. Having a awning over the slide out would have helped. The insulation in slide is only so thick. I bought 3 of the vent pillows and that actually made a difference. During the night the AC would pull down to 74. That made sleeping very nice.
Overall I'm happy with it, but don't think I'll go camping in Las Vegas in June again.

RE: Burglarized

Very Sorry to hear about that. But glad to hear that your Camping plans will continue. Some storage lots can be checked through local police for # of incident/thefts. Good luck on finding a new lot.
BTW future note, Most Flat panel TV's have a screw or two that allows you to lift it off the wall mount.

RE: KEYSTONE COUGAR POORLY CONSTRUCTED!

Scott I hear you on some items. Lino, hit and miss. Temp swing can rip lino in any RV. I live in AZ and don’t see the cold swings; it’s usually warm and hot.
Water leaks; I found a 3 foot section of the front cap that was missing silicon sealant. I would check the marker lights and everything on top.
Inverter; makes an odd noise when the draw is just right.
I do have a Quality issue that I must share. I started prepping yesterday for this weekends’ trip and flipped on the water pump and water flowed from under the trailer. SO, I took off about 18 feet of screws just to drop the side down and get the right amount of bow in the underbelly skin so I could get my hands on the main water line. I found that the factory had used hose clamps from the pump to the HP water line. The fitting they clamped it to is a screw on compression style fitting. Mainly used with the hard tubing. It has ONE Barb maybe 10mm in length, the hose clamp is about 7mm wide. So, when the clamp is tightened, it is holding on the edge of the barb, and IMO is PRONE to failure.
The fix was a threaded on both ends ½ in PVC joint and a ½ x ½ threaded MIP plastics hose barb. This has 4 barbs and is 30mm in length allowing 2 hose clamps to be used with each one having a solid grab on the barbs. (I know I should have taken pictures.) All said and done $8.20 at lowes, one nice cut on the arm from the Alum skin, and 2 hours of time gone.
Check yours when you have the time, my pump in under the drawer aft of the fridge. If it has a hose clap on the flexible line with threads next to it. You could run into the same issue.
Guess I’ll have to take pictures now. BTW I bought the rig in Feb 08.
I still Love it, and feel good about the purchase, Just those little things like hose clamps bug me.

RE: New uses for RV's

I would use mine as a dog house. The dogs would love it, and when I’m in trouble with the DW, being in the dog house won’t be all that bad.

RE: Cougar 245RKS

We have the Cougar 310srx and love it. Best bang for the buck. If the 245RKS tows anything like mine you will be very, very happy.
You won't have any issues with the hitch since you have a long bed.

RE: Duro Tires, get rid of them?

As Stated above, any tire can blow. I have had no issues with mine. Hold air without loss, don't track on freeway cracks and handled the few rocky areas I've taken them on nicely.
I haven't read any bad things about them online. I'd say that I'd look into replacements once the ones that I have wear out.

RE: Blowouts

I would advise against a hub spacer as this is not a good way to fix the problem, it will move the wheel away from the hub face and in turn away from the frame but for some reason Dexter has expressed this is not a good thing to do...I cannot why they discourage this.
The Wheel spacers introduce additional flex to the wheel/hub contact. It may not seem like it would, but it indeed has additional flex. I myself look at it from another point. Checking the torque on the lugs. If you add a 1.5 inch spacer to get you to your desired backspacing, when you check your lugs to ensure that they are torqued to the proper specs, you would have to remove the wheel to get to the original set of hub lugs. (that or run studs that are 1 1/5 inches longer than stock, Good luck finding those in 9/16's size.)
Here is an Example.
Now there are good Spacers out there, and some of the high end ones I would feel comfortable putting on a quad or Jeep. But they run about the same, if not more than the cost of a rim with the proper Backspacing.
IMHO The Best bet to fix the problem is to buy new wheels with the correct backspacing. Or a 3 inch longer axle. :)

RE: Entrance Steps

The DW took a good fall off of the top step. I picked up some fullwidth Anti-Skid strips at Lowe's. They cover the full step and have a yellow reflective stripe on them. Makes for a nice reflector when the steps are down.
But I do agree, most fold down steps are very shallow. I like the ones pictured.

RE: Blowouts

The issue may be in the wheels. You may have to much backspacing. You could change wheels and reduce the backspacing. This would help get that tire further away from the frame. A wheel spacer will do the same, but I personally do not like spacers on trailers since the side to side forces are pretty harsh.
